How to record a Screencast with YouTube

A digital video recording of your computer screen with a voice-over narration is called a Screencast.  While making a screencast requires a microphone and some video capturing software but not many people know but you can make a screencast using your YouTube account. Yes, that’s true! You can actually record your desktop screen using YouTube without having any video recording software.

You actually have to create an event while making a screencast. Go to YouTube and sign in using your Google Account. Hit on the Upload button on the top right corner and click on Live Streaming option on the right panel. Record a Screencast with YouTube

Click on Events on the left panel of the page. If you haven’t yet created any event on YouTube, you will see the page below. Click on the New Live Event button on the right.

This will take you to the Create Event page.

Fill in the basic details like Title, Description, Tags and click on ‘Go Live Now’ button. Do not forget to adjust the privacy settings, see if you want your video to be private, public or unlisted. Click on the Screenshare button in the left panel and a pop-up window will display all windows open on your desktop screen. Select a screen which you want to record and click on Broadcast.

Your screencast is recorded on YouTube.

While recording, the screencast, you can turn off the Microphone if you don’t want to record the voice over.
