Reading View feature in Internet Explorer Modern UI version

Most users are aware of the versions of Internet Explorer offered in Windows 8. For those, still struggling to find the difference there are two versions of Internet Explorer provided with the newest OS-

  1. Internet Explorer Desktop version
  2. Internet Explorer Modern version

The latter seems to be a wholesale refresh of the browser rather than the tune-ups observed in its predecessors like Internet Explorer 10 and earlier. In the opinion of many, the version is capable of providing a smooth browsing experience across your Windows devices.

Reading View in IE11 Modern UI

Internet Explorer 11 Modern UI has a feature called Reading View that extends a more streamlined, book-like reading experience of webpages without having any other clutter displayed on the screen. Yes, it removes the clutter of ads and other elements of the page that can affect your reading flow. The feature finds use in places where articles are split into multiple pages.

Here’s how you can access the Reading View feature in Windows 8.1.

Open the modern Internet Explorer 11. Enter the address of a website and see if it supports the Reading View feature. A BOOK icon should be visible to you, adjacent to the address of the website.

If the icon appears, click on the icon and you will find the article displays much like articles do in the Bing News app. You can continue reading the articles using the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Reading View mode

If you would like to alter the Reading View Settings in Modern Internet Explorer 11 or customize the how the text and the background appears simply, open the Charms bar while in modern Internet Explorer 11, and click on Settings. Then, Click on Options.

Now, select a color scheme and the size of the font of your choice. That’s it!

You can find the following information from a webpage displayed in reading view:

  • Title
  • Byline
  • Date
  • images
  • Captions of the images
  • Content of the page
  • Copyright information.

The plus point of using Reading View feature is that it lets you read sans ads, buttons and other clutter, but displays the full article from each page in one article.

All websites do not support reading view. In addition, the reading view feature is not supported in IE11 on Windows 7, or the desktop IE11 in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1.

Let us know if you are one, who uses this feature frequently!
