Process Closer is, in a sense, a single-feature, advanced version of Windows Task Manager, as it allows users to end processes instantly by just using the ‘drag and drop‘ method. This tool also notifies users, if a not-responding process is detected and lets you kill it instantly.
Terminate programs using Drag and Drop
Once you have downloaded and installed it, you will have to run it manually, as by default Process Closer will be not run automatically in the background once you are done with the installation. So you will have to launch the application for the first time manually. Once the application is launched, it will appear in the system tray. You can then set it to Autostart with Windows. This free tool sits in the system tray with a blue and white plus icon, and it can be brought to life by just clicking on it.
To terminate a program, click on the blue icon. A Drag & Kill window will be seen. Now right-click inside this window and drag it and drop it into the program window, which you want to close. You may be asked to confirm, but you can change this setting.
If a non-responding program is detected, a separate ‘Not responding process detected’ window appears on the bottom right-hand side. All programs dragged to this window will be killed instantly.
Right-clicking on the icon will present the following options to you.
Selecting Settings will open the Settings box, where you can configure it to suit your requirements.
- Drag and drop non-responding programs to kill them instantly
- Kills Process kill as well as Child processes
- The Detection time interval for not responding processes can be customized.
- Offers Autostart ability
- Keyboard hotkeys can be enabled.
The application is designed for the power user who often works on many applications at once. If due to memory allocation issues at a kernel level, the OS freezes a program window, then Process Closer will let you terminate it instantly.
Users of Windows may like this way of closing programs, considering the fact that, to close Windows Store apps, you have to drag and drop them to the bottom of the screen. Using this tool, you can use the drag and drop method to terminate them.
