Nokia Lumia 625 Full Review

Nokia has recently launched so many Lumia phones that if you’re looking to buy one for you, they confuse again and again. Actually, there is a kind of Lumia for every type of user. Well, after sorting out too many things, I got the new Nokia Lumia 625 which I guess will fulfill all your needs.

After  using this 4G supported device since the last 2 days, I found some things quite simple at some times and typical at other instances. Nokia Lumia 625 comes with Windows Phone 8 which could be upgraded to Windows Phone 8 Black. Nokia has recently announced at MWC 2014 that Windows Phone 8.1 will be available for all Windows Phone 8 running devices, so there is more you can expect with this device.

Nokia Lumia 625 Review

In India, the phone is priced about INR 22,ooo according to box due to which many previous reviews on this phone declared it as overpriced, however if you are good at bargaining you could get it up to 15K, as I did. If you like simple and concentrated typography and Live Tiles as in Windows 8.1, you’ll definitely love the phone.

The box contents are shown below:

Nokia Lumia 625 – LIKES

Build Quality : The build quality among all the Nokia Lumia‘s is almost the same. These phones posses a solid hard build quality, plus Lumia 625 has Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection. The keys and battery placement is quite nice. However, the phone is slightly bulky, but after 3-4 days of usage you will stop feeling so. The screen size is good to view things at great resolution, if you’re making a comparison with an Android device. The device has card slot whose memory, which is expandable up to 64 GB, so there is enough room for you to keep plenty of data on the phone.

Camera : The phone has a great 5 MP secondary camera with flash, having excellent performance and plenty of filters to play around with. If you’re addicted to snapping pictures, then this Windows Phone won’t disappoint you. The HD video recording at 1080 pixels gives you an  awesome experience with videos. Auto focus is a common factor now, but here it helps you take crystal sharp photos at 2592 x 1936 pixels. I captured the same view from my Nokia Lumia 625 and iPad with Retina Display (4th generation), both devices having 5 MP camera and picture quality is much better.

The front facing camera is VGA, but you can enjoy this and it helps you to make video calls with ease. Official apps like Nokia Camera, Nokia Smart Cam and Nokia Panorama are also available for you to take awesome snaps.

Nokia MixRadio : We all like music whatever variety of it is. Nokia MixRadio is great music store which is exclusively available for Nokia users, and its pricing is less than Apple iTunes and almost all type of songs whether they are old or new, you can find them easily.

While the Android user has to refer to third-party music sites to get his favorites, you can get your taste music with only a few taps.

Performance : As compared to previous Windows Phone 7.x, Windows Phone 8 is far improved in performance. Dual-core 1.2 GHz Krait processor gives you decent gaming experience. The newest update applicable to this phone is the Nokia Lumia Black update, which improves the multitasking to a great extent in this phone.

The sound quality of speaker is nice but the earphones not good as they could be. I tried the Sony Xperia earphones with this phone and they worked much better.

Dolby digital audio filtering is also available which further enhances you music experience.

Battery life of the phone is moderate as all the smartphones are not good on that. However, if you use the phone for calling and messaging only, the battery may last for almost one and a half day.

Nokia Lumia 625 – DISLIKES

Store : The store you get with Windows Phone is just okay but not that awesome as Google Play. The reason behind this feeling is that the apps are limited in the store. For example, if you search for a call recorder app, you won’t have any results. Since the phone’s SDK doesn’t allows you to record calls, so there is no app regarding this while there are bunch of apps for the users using Android. However, the call recorder should be baked in the phone by manufacturers in my opinion.

This was just an example, but there are limited apps, thus Store needs to be more diversified. A popular game like Subway Surfer too not available.

File Explorer : Although the phone can support up to 64 GB memory on the removable SD card, this storage is only for the files which the phone could use. If you want to keep some computer documents on your card they get removed when you plug the card to phone and then back to the computer. There could be a file management tool for showing all the files on this external storage, so that they can be shared.

Sharing : With Bluetooth v4.0 having A2DP and low energy technology, you can instantly share files. However, you can’t share the videos you have downloaded or stored onto the external storage, only the videos recorder with this phone can be shared. This limitation should have been removed, so that users can share things easily. We missed the NFC (Near Field Communication) technology for sharing at this price, plus there could be WiFi direct also available.

Conclusion

The phone could be a good match if you’re fond of simplified and rich text and UI. The phone has all the options you’ll need but these options have limitations imposed on it. While an Android user can customize elementary things, the limitations for Windows Phone prohibits you to do so. The intelligent voice recognizer needs enough improvements. The camera is the good, battery and build quality are the points which would make you to love this phone. If you are looking for crystal sharp display, you must buy this phone.
