Many people have been using some kind of wallpaper changer, apart from the built-in Windows Personalization option. A recent one was the Bing Desktop where the Bing Daily Homepage image was set as the desktop background. Bing Homepage images are known for its quality, provides excellent images. Similarly National Geographic since long time has been known for its quality images.

Now a National Geographic Photo of the Day Wallpaper Changer has been released and is available for download at CodePlex.
You don’t need to install the software, after downloading it. Simply copy it to a folder and you are ready to go. On its first run, it’ll ask you to enable Photo of the Day (PoD) changer so that it manages the desktop wallpaper. It’ll also ask if you would like PoD to update wallpaper on Windows startup. Then it’ll sit in the system tray from where you can access its settings. 
National Geographic – Photo of the day wallpaper changer can automatically set your desktop background to the Photo of the Day and wallpaper can be changed manually or automatically.
Daily archive can also be enabled to archive daily image automatically.
It also has the advanced archive option to archive images between any given dates. (At present its available from 1st Jan 2009 till Today). Just select the date range and press the start button. You can use the stop button if you want to stop the archiving process. This option is at Archive > Advanced Archiving
So if you like the image you can archive it. But some images which are copyrighted can not be set as wallpaper or downloaded.
National Geographic – Photo of the day wallpaper changer checks for updates after start-up. If a major update is available, software will install it automatically. In case of minor updates, you will be asked if you want to install the update or not.
