Surface RT Specs

OS : Windows RT, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 RT Preview

Surface with Windows RT comes with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 RT Preview (2) (which includes Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote).

VERDICT : Well atm, Indian market is flooded with Android ICS, so people will try something new with this OS as they are familiar with Windows very well. Having Office will be the icing on the top.

STORAGE : 32 GB, 64 GB

VERDICT : We all know that Surface is mainly concentrated on business uses and professionals, so getting a bigger storage is good choice. Surface will probably give a good competition to other tablets in this segment.

EXTERIOR | Dimensions: 10.81 x 6.77 x 0.37 in • Weight: Less than 1.5 lbs • Casing: VaporMg • Color: Dark Titanium • Physical buttons: Volume, Power

VERDICT : Thin, light and available in smart colors – the Surface RT is sure to be the owners pride.

DISPLAY | Screen: 10.6″ ClearType HD Display • Resolution: 1366 x768 • Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (widescreen) • Touch: 5-point multi-touch

VERDICT : Seems good but not the best! iPad offers 2048×1536 pixels. This segment wants technology that could beat retina display and probable HD display is not that one. Multi touch looks good.

CPU | Chip: NVIDIA T30 • System memory: 2 GB RAM

VERDICT : Its better than 1 GHz processors in Android ICS flooded tablets. The processor is the heart of tablet and NVIDIA is well known name in the computing world, so this makes us to try it. And to this – the 2GB RAM will certainly be a good choice.

WIRELESS | Wireless: Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) • Bluetooth 4.0 technology

VERDICT : Similar technology to Wifi drivers of PC. Bluetooth is also upgraded. Getting into Wifi is the  tablets way to get updated.

BATTERY | Up to 8 hours mixed activity • 7-15 days idle life

VERDICT : Seems promising. Will be happy to get it into work for long time. However battery specifications are not provided.

CAMERAS | Two 720p HD cameras, front and rear-facing

VIDEO | Two microphones

AUDIO | Stereo speakers

VERDICT : Surface has beaten almost all the other competitors in this segment. The HD camera may be the good choice rather than trying VGA camera. However the geo location tagging of photos is not available.

PORTS | Full-size USB 2.0 • microSDXC card reader • Headphone jack • HD video out port • Cover port

VERDICT : You can connect USB, memory card, headphone at the same time to this tablet and enjoy your data literally fast speed.

SENSORS | Ambient light sensor • Accelerometer • Gyroscope • Magnetometer

VERDICT : Seems promising! Have to try out practically.

WARRANTY | 1-year limited hardware warranty

APPS (included) | Mail • Messaging • Word • Power Point • Excel • OneNote • SkyDrive • Internet Explorer 10 • Bing • Music • Video • Games • and more

VERDICT : People have already gone addicted the apps provided in Windows 8 editions. So these apps probably beats other competitors in this segment. But the success of this or any tablet is largely dependent on the number of apps available, so we can only hope that the Windows Store is able to offer many more interesting apps soon.
