Microsoft Live Labs launches Zoom.it

Microsoft Live Labs has released a free tool for easy sharing of high-resolution Web images. Zoom.it is a free service for viewing and sharing high-resolution imagery. You give them the link to any image on the web, and the service will give you a beautiful new way to experience it — along with a nice short URL.

Zoom.it converts your image to the Deep Zoom format, which lets you smoothly and efficiently explore the whole image, no matter how large.

Zoom.it runs on Windows Azure and takes advantage of Microsoft Silverlight to provide the richest, most fluid zooming experience possible.

Why Zoom.it? “We think every image on the web should be a beautiful, high-resolution one. Zoom.it gets us one step closer to that vision, and Deep Zoom keeps the experience fast and buttery smooth.”

Zoom.it has been created by Microsoft Live Labs, the same folks who brought you Photosynth and Pivot.
