Often, while doing daily work we keep several windows opened so it becomes easier for us to switch between them easily, whenever required. This, however, is no easy task as keeping too many windows opened on screen distracts. Moreover, arranging every window to its own location enables spatial memory for finding required window. Well, at least one utility claims to overcome this hassle.
WindowSlider is an experimental Windows utility for arranging open windows on your desktop. The ingenious program increases the desktop width in horizontal direction. This leaves you with more space for arranging windows with convenient sizes without a need to overlap. And you can always view some portion of this ‘infinite’ desktop and can slide left and right, as per your convenience.
This prevents you from:
- Minimizing or closing windows, temporarily not in use
- Maximizing windows, thereby allowing you to concentrate on your work
The handy and reliable program includes a simple interface that allows you to slide windows when you move mouse to middle of left or right desktop edge. By default, the slider provides some keyboard shortcuts for sliding. For instance, you need to press (and hold) Ctrl-Alt-Q for sliding to left and Ctrl-Alt-W for sliding to right. To switch to another window, you need to press and hold Alt-Tab.
Note that all the keyboard shortcuts are configurable and one can easily configure them by simply doing a right-click on WindowSlider tray icon and selecting the ‘Configure’ option. One can also set additional shortcuts, if required.
Unwanted features can be disabled individually from the configuration window. Also, if you are in middle of a game or some other activity you can disable the program completely to avoid any sort of distractions. To do this, simply double-click WindowSlider tray icon or right-click WindowSlider tray icon and select ‘Disable’. To enable the program, double-click again or select ‘Enable’.
WindowSlider does not contain any kind of adware. Currently, it is free for use but further development of the application depends on how popular it gets over time. Later versions may or may not become paid.
WindowSlider System Requirements:
WindowsSlider is compatible with Windows 7 only. It does not work on Windows XP and no testing of the program was done on Windows Vista.
