Lenovo IdeaPad U300S Review
Instead of implementing a look that thins down towards the front, Lenovo IdeaPad features similar width of 0.59 inches throughout. Though it is not the most attractive ultrabook out there, it definitely feels sturdy, as it is built from single piece of aluminum.
Inner concave shaped AccuType keys on islandic keyboard of U300s are comfortable to work with. However, being smaller than usual size, right shift and backspace takes time to adjust to. The Keyboard is not backlight so typing at night is quite irksome. The Touchpad is quite large, occupying every inch of palm rest available. It works perfectly with multiple gesture inputs like pinch to zoom. Lenovo has added some custom finger gestures that engage four-fingers.
The display of Lenovo IdeaPad U300S is 13.3 inch, boasting a resolution of 1366 x 768; typical of most of ultrabooks. It is clear, bright and crispy providing excellent results while watching HD videos. However, limited viewing angles can cause trouble for some users. But users can enjoy movies on larger screen, thanks to integrated Wi-Di technology. Just buy a $99 adapter and you are done. Backed with SRS premium sound, Lenovo IdeaPad U300s produces excellent sound quality. The 1.3 megapixels camera creates excellent image and responds well to the motions in front of it.
When it comes to ports, the U300s is quite a disappointment. It features uneven distribution of ports with HDMI and USB 3.0 on right and USB 2.0 on left. It misses the SD card slot, which can turn out to be reason for some users to not to go for this ultrabook. Thanks to installed SSD, U300s boots Windows 7 Home Premium in a mere 34 seconds. Waking up from sleep is also quite quick with noted time of 4 seconds or less.
If you are not a hardcore gamer, simple graphic-eating games like Fifa12 can be easily run with the help of Intel GMA HD 3000 chip. For the rest, this one is not a correct choice. In terms of battery life, Lenovo Ideapad U300s produces brighter results. It offers a battery life of 6 hours and 52 minutes. It recharges up to 50% in a time of just 30 minutes.
