Kaspersky Software Updater helps keep your software up-to-date

It is important, not just to keep your Windows operating system and your security software fully updated, but equally important that you keep your installed software fully up-to-date. That is where software update checkers can help you. New on the block is Kaspersky Software Updater, which also helps keep your software up-to-date.

Kaspersky Software Updater will perform a swift scan of your Windows PC to check for out-dated security-critical software. If any updates are available, it will let you update your PC software in just a few clicks.

The download is a 360KB web installer.Once you download it and run it the web installer will download the requite files required for installation. Once the files download is complete, the setup will begin. Once installed, you will be able to click on its desktop icon to start the scan.

The scan is quick. If any of your installed software need to be updated, you will be according informed and you can decide to update them. Of no updates are found, you will see a message Software is up to date. For details you can click on the Report link. Using its Settings, you will be able to schedule its scans.

This tool will add an entry to the start up list and want to run every time Windows starts. You may take a call on this, and decide whether you want this to happen or you want to run it on-demand.

This free tools currently scan for updates available for Adobe AIR, Adobe Flash Player – Plugin & ActiveX, Adobe Reader, Adobe Shockwave Player, Sun Java, Oracle Java, Google Chrome, SeaMonkey, Opera, Firefox,  Thunderbird and a few other applications, but it is expected that this list will grow soon.

It is currently in Beta, but you can download it from the Kaspersky website.

It is quite possible that Kaspersky may decide to integrate this tool into your Internet security suites, which offers good protection. As mentioned, keeping installed programs fully updated is as important as updating your Windows and your security software. That is where this module will be helpful if it is included with Kaspersky Antivirus software.
