Infographic: Microsoft vs Apple – The history of computing

Speed Up My PC

This 650 x 10124 pixel Infographic from Manolution graphically tries to sum up the history and the present status of the tech industry’s arch rivals, Microsoft and Apple.

It highlights important developments of each of these. At the end you also have thier individual historic stock price movements.

Bill Gates and Paul Allen called up Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems in Jan 1975 claiming to have a working BASIC interpreter for the MITS Altair 8800 microcomputer. Within two months they had it working flawlessly. MITS agreed to distribute the software under the name Altair BASIC. Microsoft was officially established just one month later, on April 4th, 1975. After launching their first Disk Operating System (DOS) in 1980 Microsoft quickly began to grow into one of the biggest names in personal computing.

Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne founded their company, Apple, in April 1976. Apple began their business by selling bare-bones hand-built computer kits, named the Apple I, unlike Microsoft, who chose to focus on making operating systems for 3rd party hardware.

While it is interesting to get a look at, when I saw this earlier I was kind of dissapointed. The information leans more towards boosting Apple than Microsoft and a bit missleading. Why not display Apples bail out from Microsoft or instead of just saying Windows 7 released, should have been the fastest selling operating system, same for Office the same way it displays tidbits for Apple products. Alot of information is left out that should have been shown to be 100% informative.

    Most biased info graphic ever…

No mention of the announced Windows 8…
You have the wrong logo for Windows Server 2003…
No mention of the bail out of Microsoft of Apple…
No mention that Office 2010 is the most popular office product ever…
No mention of Microsoft buying Hotmail…. or Skype…
No mention of the Xbox 360 Slimt refresh… or Kinect…
    No mention of Windows Phone!!!!
