Flock, the social web browser that was purchased recently by Zynga, has announced that it will be shutting down.
Flock will no longer be actively maintained, which means you can keep using the product, but key features will stop working after April 26th, 2011 and over time the browser will no longer be secure as software updates and upgrades will no longer be provided.
Says the official end of support notice on flock.com:
Support for Flock browsers will be discontinued as of April 26th, 2011. We would like to thank our loyal users around the world for their support, and we encourage the Flock community to migrate in the coming weeks to one of the recommended web browsers listed below.
While you can keep using Flock, its sync and social networking features will no longer work after April 26, 2011, as the servers that bring you those features will be decommissioned. In addition, the browser will not have the latest security and privacy updates made available.
Flock users who want to retrieve their favorites and feeds from Flock 3.x profile, can click the “Home” button beside the URL bar > “Favorites” tab > click the “Export” link at the far right of the “Favorites” page.
