Speed Up My PC

Microsoft has released a hotfix to correct a situation where the “Load a specific theme” Group Policy setting is not applied correctly on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

hotfix icon Fix: Load a Specific Theme Group Policy does not work in Windows 7

You can via the Group Policy, specify the default visual style for new users who logs on for the first time.

But consider the following scenario:

  • You configure the Load a specific theme Group Policy setting in a domain. The policy successfully forces all the clients in the domain to apply a specific theme when a user logs on to a client computer.
  • Then you enable the Prevent changing desktop background Group Policy setting.
  • A new user logs on to a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

In this scenario, the Load a specific theme Group Policy setting is not applied for the new user. The specified wallpaper or color scheme is not used.

In such a case you can download and apply Fix307916 from Microsoft to resolve this issue.

Details: KB980628.
