Edge browser tips & tricks for Android & iOS

1] Sync and continue on PC

If you have Windows 10 v1709 installed on your PC, you would be able to leave work on your mobile and continue the same on your PC. For example, many times we need a bigger monitor to check a particular web page. Instead of opening that page manually, you can send the URL to your PC’s Edge browser. To be able to do this, you will have to first link your mobile to Windows 10 PC. Also, you have to sign in with the same Microsoft account on both the devices. After doing all these, you can press the button to send a web page URL from mobile to PC.

2] Activate theme color

If you are a website designer, you will know what theme color is. In simple words, people add a code like this in the <head> tag:

<meta name="theme-color" content="#266289" />

If you add such a code, the URL bar, and status bar will look differently. Instead of showing the white color, it will adopt the custom color. Previously, it was available only in Google Chrome for Android. However, now you can get the same in Microsoft Edge as well.

To activate it, open Microsoft Edge browser > tap on three-dotted button visible on bottom-right corner > select Settings > Appearance> toggle the Turn on theme color button.

3] Change default search engine

You will find Bing as the default search engine in Microsoft Edge. However, if you want to change the default search engine of Microsoft Edge for Android or iOS, you can do so with the help of these steps. Open Settings in Microsoft Edge and go to Default search engine option. You will find some other search engines such as Yahoo, Google, Ask, and AOL. You can choose any one among them.

4] Clear site data

If you want to remove all the data such as search history, cookies, cache, autofill information about a particular site, you can do so easily. Open Microsoft Edge settings > Site permission > All sites > find the site that you want to delete > tap on the Clear & reset button. After that, you need to choose the affirmative option in the popup menu.

5] Enable Do Not Track

Almost every website tracks its users’ behavior, IP address, location, browser, etc. through cookies, if you do not want to be tracked, you can enable Do Not Track in Microsoft Edge. To do this, open Microsoft Edge settings > Privacy > Do Not Track > toggle the button to turn it on.

6] Use Reading mode

The Reading Mode helps users read more text in a comfortable environment without any distractions. Like in Edge for Windows 10, you can get the same Reading Mode in mobile as well. To use it, you need to open a webpage that you want to read and click on the ‘Reading mode’ button in the URL bar. You can also change the color of the background, font family, text size, etc.

These are some of the basic Microsoft Edge tips and tricks for Android and iOS that can help you get started.
