Curious… Firefox is in that state between the traditional, “AHHHH I CANT BELIEVE THE NEXT VERSION’S OUT! GIMME!” state of software, and the Chrome “Heads up guys, now non-developers have the next version.”

I wonder when FF will have the same status in terms of importance of new version numbers…

for an ordinary user, both the versions feels the same!
i feel no differences whatsoever :/

    Thanks Andy !

interesting, however take a look at:
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/5.0/win32/en-US/index.html

“Thanks for your interest in Firefox 5

We aren’t quite finished qualifying Firefox 5 yet. You should check out the latest Beta.

When we’re all done with Firefox 5 it will show up on Firefox.com. ”

it might be a VERY good idea to wait until it´s OFFICIALY released….

i just installed FF downloaded from the URL given above:
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/5.0/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%205.0.exe

when FF started it showed: “You are now running Firefox Beta”

    it´s a BETA-version…

as i said above: “it might be a VERY good idea to wait until it´s OFFICIALLY released….”

I was able to download and install it and I am clearly running the final version 5. I guess, Mozilla took the downloads off. Will update the post. Thanks!

FF should focus on reducing its memory foot print and plugging all its leaks. It needs vastly improved memory management above all else. A browser gobbling up gigabytes of memory with a handful of pages is just unacceptable.

Please don’t update my firefox automatically to the beta version ok? I can’t afford the various bugs in beta versions. It’s the second time you did this to me since half a year ago I began to use firefox. At least you should give me a choice whether update or not. I have uninstalled firefox and will stay with the small Avant browser for some time. it’s a small browser, not famous but I have the right to stay.

@David.bruce If you do not want FF updating automatically, just turn off the automatic updates Tools>options>Advanced>Updates.
