BitDefender tops AV-Test list of security software for 2010 Q4, in terms of Protection offered

Speed Up My PC

AV-Test has tested 23 paid and free security software on Windows Vista and released its findings. The security software were judged in the areas of Protection, Repair and Usability.

During the 4th quarter of 2010 we have tested 23 security products in the areas protection, repair and usability.

The “Protection” covers static and dynamic malware detection, including real-world 0-Day attack testing.

In case of “Repair”, we check the system disinfection and rootkit removal in detail.

The “Usability” testing includes the system slow-down caused by the tools and the number of false positives.

A product has to reach at least 12 out of 18 possible points in order to receive a certification. 18 products have fulfilled our requirements and received an AV-Test certificate.

BitDefender Internet Security Suite 2011 received top scores in the Protection list, Kaspersky  Internet Security 2011 received top scores in the Repair List and F-Secure Internet Security 2011 received the top scores in the Usability list.

However F-Secure Internet Security 2011 managed to get the highest score in terms of the total of the 3 parameters.

Here is list of top 5 security software according to them ranked by their Protection score:

  • BitDefender: Internet Security Suite 2011
  • BullGuard: Internet Security 10.0
  • Kaspersky: Internet Security 2011

You’d think they would have at least tested the latest versions of programs. Microsoft Security Essentials is now Version 2 and much inproved. How many others are not the latest builds????

Thanks for sharing this list of the top antivirus software. One of my biggest concerns with antivirus programs is how much they will slow down my PC. I recently started a blog post series where I’ve been running tests to compare how different AV programs’ impact my PC’s performance. The results are pretty interesting. Take a look and let me know what you think: http://bit.ly/f24UTp

After 3 years of trouble lack of support, I have got rid of Bitdefender IS 2011. It slows the PC to a slow crawl, Stops responding, crash’s the PC.
    Very heavy on resources!!
Their support is a joke from suggesting (If you can wait a week + for a reply) re-formatting to what ever you can think off. A real 3rd rate product, having said that IF I repeat IF you manage to get it working it’s low in my ratings as a product. No refund was forthcoming from them whatsoever.

I switched to BullGuard 2011 & have had no problems with it, light on resources efficient easy to use, without out all the bells & frills.
Their support are quick, friendly & helpful if needed.
Certainly seems to do the job with quick updates.
