Revo Uninstaller (in place of CCleaner) and Orbit Downloader (in place of IDM).

  • Ash

i’m using MSSE as my anti-virus toolkit, do you mean that Avast is better than MSSE?!

and about photo editing tools, i missed Picture Manager of Office after upgrading to 2013! i tried several programs such as Live Image Editor, Picasa and GIMP for simple photo editing (cropping and resizing) and none of them are perfect. I’m going to try Photoscape too but i’m sure it can’t be as practical as Office Picture Manager.

  • Ash

i suggest you try CCleaner too. it’s more than just an uninstaller. it keeps your system clean, fast and stable. highly recommended.

IDM is not free. it’s the best download manager i’ve ever tried (both free and commercial)

  • Derek

Ash, believe me you will never miss Picture Manager again after using PhotoScape. I was in the same situation as yours a few months ago.

  • Derek

    No: 6,11, and 12
Aren’t they all very similar to function? Or am I missing something here?

  • Ash

agreed. I’m glad I found it here. I’ve never heard about PhotoScape before. it’s interface is designed well and contains all the features I’ve always wanted to have.

  • SiddhantKankaria

Revo uninstaller is way better than CCleaner. Also, CCleaner could not do anything to make my pc fast. If u want that, try registry booster.

I prefer orbit because its free, and i don’t require as many features as IDM provides. Orbit is sufficient for me.

  • zepe

I like Internet Download Manager it’s the fastest I know of and you can preselect where you want different types of downloads to go.

  • Ash

I never trust tune-up programs. CCleaner deletes temporary files and cleans up registry, manages startup applications and lets you uninstall all useless files alongside the program itself.

it all depends on personal knowledge but as a power user i prefer CCleaner just to clean junk files. i can do the rest myself without trusting automated programs, which may cause my system to stop working.

btw, Revo Uninstaller Free lacks the majority of features included in Pro.

  • SiddhantKankaria

    I don’t trust tune-up programs either. 😛
Also, i don’t even clean up the registry. But earlier i used to use Registry Booster, and it was good.

Revo free provides everything ccleaner does (except registry thing), along with powerful uninstalling options, which ccleaner lacks.

I tried Ccleaner once, but now prefer Revo. It’s just that now having used revo (in my case) or ccleaner (in your case) for long, its difficult to switch. 😛

I still love to use CClener, especially since they make a portable version Ican keep on a flash drive or combine it into a sort of “tool box”. But I found a site which claimed to have an enhancer for CCleaner called CCEnhancer. Here is the link too check it out It seemed to fill a multitude of voids you might find interesting.

  • SiddhantKankaria

Seriously interesting. Although, i could not find any change log/enhancements page telling what are the added features.
Could you post a link of that too?

If it will give me a better uninstaller, i’ll surely try it.

Avast! is much better than MSE. My computer was infected by several trojans (computer was shutting down after a BSOD) MSE found the trogans, but would not remove them. It suggested that I run Windows Defender which is worthless. I removed MSE, installed Avast! it found and removed 4 trojans using the boot-time scan feature. If I had Avast! installed I wouldn’t have gotten those trojans to begin with because of Avast!’s far superior shields. Not to mention Avast!’s streaming updates along with it’s normal updates. I’ve had Avast! update as many as 3 times in one day.

  • Ash

for me, these are the 12 best software of 2012 in the same order:

    1. Microsoft Security Essentials (highly recommended for laptop users)

    2. Photoscape

    3. Yahoo! Messenger and Skype

    4. KLite Codec Pack + Media Player Classic

    5. Team Viewer

    6. CCleaner

    7. Internet Download Manager (it’s not free but is way better than other download managers)

    8. LastPass

    9. I don’t use this kind of programs at all

    10. Same as #1

    11. I’ve never trusted automated tune-up / boost-up programs, no matter how popular they are. They may cause my OS to stop working.

    12. Same as #11

  • Arun Kashyap

Two metro apps are not working for me. Any registry fixing tool for Windows 8?

  • Arun Kashyap

Malwarebytes will help removing any infections. :) I use Windows Defender and Malwarebytes in Windows 8.

  • dlhgi4unfiw

Yo! How to join this club?

  • Bigelile

MBAM will remove what Avast! doesn’t get. Avast! is an antivirus program. MBAM is a malware program. You need both, and I would also suggest using SAS (SUPERAntiSpyware) along with MBAM.

  • Bigelile

    *anti-malware program

  • Michael Heiser

Thanks so much! I’m going to try out #11 on your list. I also have written down here… Axcrypt. It had been mentioned on another site. One last thing: you should add: Advanced System Care… it’s an awesome program: both the free version and the paid version. Again thanks; Cheers~~~~~

  • arronlee

Image viewer? Thanks for your sharing, but I used to view image according to the tutorials about how to create Windows image viewer using C#.NET:
I wonder whether the tool you mentioned above has a free trial for us to check. If so, I want to have a try. Thanks in advance.

    Best regards,

  • petadl

Totally agree with you that Avast! Antivirus is the best antivirus ever. I always use it for my Mac, my Windows and my iOS too.
