Avast Free AntiVirus 8 for Windows adds many new features

Avast Free Antivirus 8 for Windows has been released and is now available for download. If you are already using Avast, you will be able to update it via your  software’s interface. If you want to try out this free antivirus software for Windows, you can download it from its official download page.

Avast Free Antivirus 8 Review

Avast Free Antivirus is a 105MB download and offers many option during installation. You may choose the Express install or the Custom installation. I recommend the latter as it will allow you to select or deselect the features you don’t want installed on your computer.

For instance you may not want Google Drive installed on your PC – which is otherwise installed by default.

AVAST 8 brings new technologies for proactive detection and adds many new features!

The Software Updater is a new AVAST feature that pre-empts potential exploitation of vulnerabilities in outdated applications by checking up your installed software and offering to update them to their latest secure, stable versions, if any updates are found.

The Browser Cleanup Tool is another new AVAST feature. This toolbar remover is great for removing unwanted toolbars and other plugins.

Avast 8 introduces new technologies for proactive detection. The Malware-similarity search technology will pull in data real-time from the AVAST cloud database – to deliver automatic identification and blacklisting of files similar to other known infected files. A new dynamic-detection engine has been combined with AutoSandbox. This will allow AVAST to analyze suspicious files in an isolated environment before they are allowed to run on the user’s system. Evo-Gen, is a new backend detection system, that generates fully generic detection of entire malware families. Avast 8 allows Remote Assistance too.

The scanning module offers Quick Scans, Full System Scans and most importantly Boot-time scans too. The Boot time scans come very handy while removing persistent malware, as the scan is performed even before Windows – and consequently malware loads.

The new user interface is touch-optimized, cool to look at and easy to navigate. If you are looking at a free third-party antivirus software for your Windows 7 or Windows 8, this is the one we’d like to suggest.

Avast, like almost all other antivirus apps, are simply a waste of disk space. Even Norton 360 is a waste of disk space.

I tried many free antivirus apps and also paid apps Norton 360 and Trend Micro. After trying Avira free edition I realized just how worthless they are. Avira found malware the others didn’t know was on my hard drive. I’ll never use anything else again.

I also tried many free and a few paid antispyware scanners. Superantispyware free edition found malware the others didn’t even know existed. I will never use anything else again.

Thanks for the review! I’m using a different antivirus called Unthreat Antivirus and I think it does a great a job so I’m probably not going to change it any time soon, but thanks!
