Archive, analyze & export tweets with Microsoft’s ‘The Archivist’

Microsoft’s new project, The Archivist Alpha, a tool for searching Twitter, shows immense promise.

The Archivist is a new lab/website from Mix Online that lets people archive, analyze and export tweets.

If you enter a word or term including a Twitter Search Operator, The Archivist will return a load of useful information including tweet volume over time, names of users with the most relevant tweets & the most relevant url.

The Archivist sets out to accomplish three things:

  • Archive tweets
  • Analyze tweets
  • Export tweets

Now, to be clear, the Archivist is very different than what the Library of Congress will make available. The Archivist is not an archive of all tweets. The Archivist can’t go back in time, says this blog post.

But what The Archivist can do is allow individuals to begin archives right now on searches they care about.
