Add cool virtual special effects to your webcam with ManyCam

ManyCam is a freeware tool developed for Windows platform. It allows you to add live CGI graphics, such as hats or glasses to a webcam’s output. It automatically tracks face movements and supports text and drawing over video. In version 2.3, virtual 3D masks were introduced. It can also use the desktop as a webcam. The application lets users, use their webcam with multiple Windows applications.

ManyCam is compatible with Yahoo, MSN, CamFrog, PalTalk, ICQ, Skype, YouTube, etc. You can use your webcam with multiple applications at the same time and add cool graphics to your webcam video window.

There is a simple module for creating graphics and effects which are included in the software. You can create your own face effects and backgrounds. You can get more than 7,000 effects from the database which is located at ManyCam website. You can create your own ManyCam effects by adding image files/videos and convert them into ManyCam format.

How ManyCam Works

ManyCam uses a webcam or any camera connected to your Windows PC as input of the software and then it replicate itself as another source of input. It creates a virtualized camera which is recognized by mostly all windows software. ManyCam nearly works with all chat and other software such as Windows Live Messenger and many others.

You can give many funny and cool effects to your webcam output and your friends whom with you are video calling would be surprised when you will switch through different backgrounds. ManyCam provides supports to the most of the applications. The best feature is that you can even use your desktop as your webcam.

ManyCam is a free alternative to Cyberlink YouCam

There are many other similar software such as Magic Camera, Softcam and WebcamMax etc. but I think the most feature full application is ManyCam as it provides the largest support of applications. Most of the other softwares are paid but this one is freeware so you can again save your bucks by downloading this applications.

The interface or GUI is user friendly; you can easily perform set of tasks without any complications, everything is in front of you. It is very lite and fast application. Hope you liked it.

Versions

The stable version of the software was released as version 2.6.55 and I think it was the most rated by people. The new version which are upcoming I think would include better features.

Not only Cyberlink’s YouCam (which is actually pretty darned good), but the cam app that comes with most Dell machines also has similar (but not quite as good) features. Come to think of it, so do several other tools which come with computers and their web cams. It’s not uncommon…

…though what IS uncommon is for very many of the ones which do it to do it particularly well. Even early versions of YouCam didn’t quite do it well… though, starting with version 3, and especially with version 4, Cyberlink seems to have finally gotten it more or less right.

This freeware “ManyCam” app looks kinda’ interesting. I’m going to download it and put it on my wife’s Dell notebook just to see how it works. Thanks for the tip!

ONE FINAL NOTE: Be careful, please, about saying, in the articles on this site, that a given piece of software is just for Windows 7 when, in fact, it’ll work on XP or Vista, too. Windows 7 users get a little arrogant sometimes, I’ve noticed on sites like this, and they talk about what they use as though that’s all that EVERYONE is using. PLEASE STOP IT. ManyCam runs on XP, Vista and Win7; and that’s what the author of the piece, here, should have written.

    Just tryin’ to help.
